The only resort on the lower
Spanish River

From the dam at Espanola, which is 40 miles away, to the mouth of the river, we are the only resort. There are a few scattered residences along the river, but you will have very little competition for quiet places to fish. It is a secluded setting.

Visit the fishing page of one of our faithful guests, Dave Schabell who catches a lot of fish!

The river is only open for fishing from mid-May to Sept. 30th. The rest of the year it is closed as a Walleye spawning sanctuary. The short season keeps fishing pressure relatively low.

The Friends of the Spanish River, in conjunction with the Ministry of Natural Resources and other partners, have been conducting a Muskie stocking program for the past nine years. In the river, Muskie is catch and release only.

The river has a variety of depths, structure, and shoreline variation. It is a big, slow-moving waterway, except during the Spring run-off.

The North Channel is only minutes away and there are many islands and bays to explore.

A detailed map, showing water depths, is provided when you check in and Cal or Deb will add up-to-date details to indicate fishing hot spots.

A Variety of Fish to catch

The three main species of fish that anglers come for are:

Walleye, Smallmouth Bass,
the Northern Pike
,

but we also have Perch, Crappie, panfish, and others. Sometimes you can even tie into the occasional Largemouth Bass.
Muskie and Sturgeon are around, so don't be surprised if you tie into one of these lunkers. If you have your own boat equipped with downriggers, you can get into some deep water to troll for Lake Trout and Salmon.
